Making the beaded fringe

1 Cut about eighty 30cm (12in) lengths of tapestry wool to make fringe. Thread 1 length into tapestry needle and insert 1 end of yam into capelet edge.

2 Unthread needle and pull yam through knitting until ends are level. Tie overhand knot in yam close to capelet edge. Repeat, spacing yam fringes evenly along edge.

3 Thread selection of 3 or 4 beads onto each yam fringe. Thread each piece of yam into needle and take both strands separately through beads.

4 When beads have been threaded onto both strands of yam, tie overhand knot in yam below beads to secure them. Repeat along lower edge of capelet. Leave yam strands untrimmed below beads.
