scarf with pompoms

Pompoms are fun decorations to stitch to each corner of a plain garter stitch scarf. The secret to making a delightfully fluffy pompom is to use plenty of yarn, which can be all of one colour or a combination of several colours and types of yarn to give a multicoloured effect.

you will need

  • 4 50g balls of pure wool double knitting yam with approx 120m (131yds) per 50g ball
  • Oddments of the same yam in 2 or 3 contrasting colours
  • Pair of 6.5mm (size IOV2) knitting needles or size needed to achieve tension
  • Pompom maker or stiff card
  • Yam needle note

Yam is used double throughout. You can buy sets of adjustable plastic pompom rings or simply cut two identical doughnut shapes from sturdy card. When cutting your own shapes, make the centre ring about one quarter of the diameter of the outer ring.
