Begin at lower end and using yellow cast on 11 sts.
1st row: K1, inc K wise into remaining 10 sts — 21 sts.
Beginning with a P row, st-st 15 rows.
Join row ends and turn right side out. Stuff firmly, then leave cast on edge open. Work a chain stitch in black for each eye, thirteen knitted rows above cast on edge, leaving two clear knitted sts between the eyes.
Make beak as for the duckling.
Sew to face below the eyes. Push baby inside the egg shell, sew shell to duckling.
Egg shell [top piece]
Using white cast on 9 sts.
1st row: K1, inc K wise into remaining 8 sts — 17 sts.
Beginning with a P row, st-st 4 rows.
This completes the inner lining portion of the piece.
Next row: K1, (yrn. K2tog) to end. Beginning with a K row. st-st 6 rows.
Next row: K2, (K2tog, K1) to end — 12 sts. P 1 row.
Next row: (K2tog) to end — 6 sts. B & T tightly, for top end of the shell.
Make up as for the other egg shell piece. Sew to top of baby's head as illustrated.
