By using the eyelet buttonhole used in the moss stitch cushion project (see page 79) you can create a decorative lace detail that is perfect for baby knits. Simply by bringing the yarn forward and then decreasing afterwards, you make holes that are ideal for threading through ribbon or cord.
This sleeveless dress has a small back opening to make sure that the neck will go over the baby's head but also fit snugly when it is on. To get over the problem of pulling neck openings over struggling babies, designers will quite often use a shoulder fastening as an alternative to a back neck opening.
