The square neck is a true classic of knitted garments. The neck edge is filled in with a knitted-on decorative border. The sailor collar version has a border made as the collar is knitted.
2 Work stitches in kl, pi ribbing, designating a center knit Knit next stitch and pass 2 slipped stitches over it stitch for each corner. Work 3 stitches at each corner (corner stitch remains). Repeat at each corner.
4 Repeat these decreases every other row for border width. Bind off or knit last 2 rows in a tubular stitch, as shown, closing stitches with a yarn needle.
1 Place stitches for neck opening (including those needed for side borders) onto holder to be worked later. Work remaining stitches on each side with separate yarn to complete shoulders.
