Square neck

The square neck is a true classic of knitted garments. The neck edge is filled in with a knitted-on decorative border. The sailor collar version has a border made as the collar is knitted.

Knitting Cable Lace Border Edge

2 Work stitches in kl, pi ribbing, designating a center knit Knit next stitch and pass 2 slipped stitches over it stitch for each corner. Work 3 stitches at each corner (corner stitch remains). Repeat at each corner.

4 Repeat these decreases every other row for border width. Bind off or knit last 2 rows in a tubular stitch, as shown, closing stitches with a yarn needle.

Yarn Border

1 Place stitches for neck opening (including those needed for side borders) onto holder to be worked later. Work remaining stitches on each side with separate yarn to complete shoulders. Use crochet hook to pick up stitches for border and transfer them to double-pointed (dp) needles, using a dp n^rJIp tor Mi ll et\vp

(corner stitch and ones just before and after) as follows: Insert needle into first 2 stitches as if to knit them together and slip them without working them onto another dp needle.
