This casual jacket's unusual structure is created by simply increasing and decreasing to form diagonal ribbed fronts.

Cont to inc one st at each side of centre 95(111) sts on next and every foil right side row taking inc sts into patt and working p1 at each end of every right side row, until there are 223(255) sts, ending with a wrong side p row. Cont in this way to dec one st at beg of every right side row until 32(36) sts rem, ending with a p row.

Do not cut yarn, leave sts on a holder.

back With right side facing, 4mm (US 6) needles and a new ball of yarn, work across rem sts on circular needle as follows: k3, p2tog, patt 85(101), p2tog, k3, turn and cont on these 93(109) sts only, leave rem sts on the circular needle. left front With right side facing and 4mm (US 6) needles, rejoin yarn to rem sts on circular needle, patt to last 2 sts, p2tog. Next row (wrong side) Purl. Next row Patt to last 2 sts, p2tog.

Cont in this way to dec one st at end of every foil right side row until 32(36) sts rem, ending with a p row. Leave sts on a holder.

sleeves Cuff

1 st row (right side) K1, [pi, k3] to last 2 sts, p1, k1.

2nd row Purl.

These 2 rows set the patt.

Work in patt until sleeve measures Scm/S^in, ending with a right side row. Ridge row (wrong side) Knit. Next row (right side) Knit.

Now reverse the patt for the main sleeve as follows: Next row (right side) K1, [pi, k3] to last 2 sts, p1, k1. Next row Purl.

Cont in patt as set for a further 8cm/3^in, ending with a p row. Next row (right side) K1, ml, patt to last st, ml, k1.

Rep these 2 rows until 19(15) sts rem, ending with a p row. Leave sts on a holder.

collar With right side facing and 4mm (US 6) circular needle, work across sts on holders as follows: work p2tog, patt 29(33) across right front, k last st tog with first st of right sleeve, [p1, k3] 4(3) times, p1, k last st tog with first st of back, k2, [p1, k3] 6(8) times, p1, k2, k last st tog with first st of left sleeve, [p1, k3] 4(3) times, p1, k last st tog with first st of left front, k2, patt to last 2 sts, p2tog. 125(137) sts.

Next row (wrong side) Purl.

Rep these 2 rows until collar measures 8cm/3^in, ending with a right side row. Cast off knitwise.
