Humbug cushion

This is an unusual three-dimensional triangular cushion, which is firmly stuffed to make it a great backrest. For a larger version, just add stitches and rows.

Six 50g balls of Debbie Bliss cotton dk in Chocolate

Pair 4mm (US 6) knitting needles

45 x 84cm/17% x 33in of cotton lining fabric

19 sts and 28 rows to 10cm/4in square over patt using 4mm (US 6) needles.

to make With 4mm (US 6) needles, cast on 82 sts.

1st row (right side) K5, [p2, k5] to end. 2nd row Purl.

These 2 rows form the patt and are repeated throughout.

Cont in patt until work measures 82cm/32%in, ending with a p row.

Cast off.

to make With right sides together and taking 1 cm/^in seams throughout, stitch together lining the short sides of fabric piece to form a tube. Fold the tube flat with the seam to one side and join from the seam to the fold at one end. Open out the unstitched end and refold the fabric so the first seam lies centrally, and stitch the seam, leaving 5cm/2in unstitched at one end. Turn through to the right side and fill with polystyrene beads. Stitch the opening closed.
