Cont in patt as given for Back and inc one st at each end of the 5th and every foil 8th row until there are 72(76:80) sts.

Cont straight until sleeve measures 43(44:45)cm/17(17%:17%)in from cast-on edge, ending with a wrong side row. Cast off.

collar Join shoulder seams.

With right side facing and 5mm (US 8) needles, slip 10(13:16) sts from right front onto a needle, cast on 48(50:52) sts for centre back neck, then patt across 10(13:16) sts from left front. 68(76:84) sts.

Work 15cm/6in in patt across all sts, as set by sts from front holders. Cast off.

button band On the left front, mark a point 35cm/14in down from cast-off edge of collar.

With wrong side of jacket facing and 5mm (US 8) needles, pick up and k75 sts from marker to cast-off edge of collar. Break off yarn and slip these sts onto the 5mm (US 8) circular needle.

With right side of jacket facing and using the same 5mm (US 8) circular needle, pick up and k91 (91:95) sts from marker to cast-on edge. 166(166:170) sts.

Work backwards and forwards in rib as follows:

Rep the last 2 rows 8 times more.

Cast off in rib.

buttonhole On the right front, mark a point 35cm/14in down from cast-off edge of collar, band With wrong side of jacket facing and 5mm (US 8) needles, pick up and k75 sts from cast-off edge of collar to marker. Break off yarn and leave sts on needle. With right side of jacket facing and 5mm (US 8) circular needle, pick up and k91 (91:95) sts from cast-on edge to marker. Break off yarn, slip sts from needle onto the circular needle. 166(166:170) sts. Rejoin yarn to other end of circular needle at the cast-on edge. Work backwards and forwards in rib as follows: 1st row (right side) K2, [p2, k2] to end. 2nd row P2, [k2, p2] to end. Rep the last 2 rows 3 times more.

Buttonhole row (right side) Rib 4, [k2tog, y2rn, p2tog tbl, rib 14, p2tog, y2rn, skpo, rib 14] once more, k2tog, y2rn, p2tog tbl, rib to end. Work a further 9 rows in rib. Cast off in rib.

to make up

With centre of cast-off edge of sleeve to shoulder, sew on sleeves. Sew cast-on edge of collar to cast-off sts of centre back neck, easing in fullness. Slipstitch pocket linings in place. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
