When working with the Cooper-Hewitt Musnim's textile collection several years ago. I found in the files a copy of the nineteenth-century publicatittn Hie New Knitter or I^ady's Worktahlt; Companion. Included in this Ixtok were directions for the melon pattern, an elegant ftattern that has since become one of my favorites. I later found an embossed-leaf pattern in a nineteenth-century book by Butterick, The Art of Knitting, and more recently in Barltara Abbe/9 The Complete Book of Knitting. I decided that this pair of moderately difficult two-needle patterns Monged together and have combined them here.
