Front

With MC,cast on 102 sts and follow graph beg bottom right corner. At R21 begin intarsia square using CCI and MC. Follow graph to end. Bind-off.

Back

With MC, cast on 102 sts and work stripes as follows: 12 rows MC

1 I rows CCI

2 rows CC2 2 rows CC I 2 rows MC

12 rows CC2 6 rows CC I 6 rows MC 6 rows CC I 10 rows CC2

12 rows MC 8 rows CC2 22 rows CC I 2 rows CC2 4 rows MC 4 rows CCI 2 rows CC2 15 rows MC Bind off.

Making up

Weave in ends. With RS to RS, sew 3 sides of cushion, then turn cushion cover RS out. Place 27 x 27 in. (68.5 x 68.5 cm) cushion pad inside and pin seam. Sew from RS with neat catch st.

Variation

Knit back in same pattern as front or plain st st.

  • Yarn: bulky wool 10 x 2 oz. balls MC; 3 x 2 oz. balls CC
  • Needles: #10 (6 mm)

Front and back

With MC, cast on 102 sts and follow graph, beg bottom right corner. At R21 begin intarsia cross using CC and MC. Follow graph to end. To make a plain knitted back, continue in MC for 138 more rows, and bind-off. This knits cushion back and front all in one

Variations

Knit back in same pattern as front, or in stripes (as on squares cushion). Work front only and cut a fabric back for cushion cover.

Making up

Weave in ends. With RS to RS.fold cushion cover in half and sew side seams. Place 27 x 27 in. (68.5 x 68.5 cm) cushion pad inside and pin seam. Sew from RS with mattress st or any neat, flat, catch stitch.

These are the quantities that this sample took. However, if your knitting is loose, you may find you need just over 2 oz. (50 gm) of CC2—4 and 5-7.
