TO MAKE UP

Place markers on each side of gusset, 24cm down from cast off and cast on edges. Stitch cast on edge of bag front to gusset, between markers, then stitch sides of front to remaining gusset edges, stitching side ties into the seams. 4cm down from top edge. Stitch bag back to gusset in the same way.

LINING

Lay the interfacing on the lining fabric and iron in place. Cut two pieces of lining fabric, 33 x 28cm for back and front and one fabric piece 14 x 84cm for gusset. Taking 1.5cm seams, stitch gusset to back and front. Place lining inside bag, turning top edge of lining onto wrong side. On the lining, mark the position for the eyelets, using the knitted eyelets as a guide. Remove the lining then following the manufacturer's directions, insert the eyelets. Replace the lining in the bag and stitch in place around the top edge, then catch-stitch around the base, up the edges of the gusset and around the eyelets. Thread each handle cord through the eyelets and knot on the inside of the bag. Make two pompoms in each contrasting colour and attach one to the end of each side tie.
