To make

Brim (worked sideways)

Using 6 mm (US 10) knitting needles, cast on

21 sts.

The last 6 rows form the moss st pattern.

Rep these 6 rows until work measures 46 cm

(18 in) on shorter edge from cast-on, ending with a WS row.

Cast off in moss st.

Shape crown

With WS facing and using 6 mm (US 10)

needles, and working 1 st in along shorter side length of brim, pick up and knit 72 sts.

Cont to dec as above on every alt row until 12 sts rem.

Break off yarn, run yarn through rem sts, draw up and fasten off.

Using knit stitch selvedge on crown as a guide, sew seam using back stitch.
