How To Pick Up A Stitch

Hold the knitting with the right side toward you, insert the needle under an edge stitch, take the yarn around and pull a loop through to make a stitch. When you have picked up enough stitches, remember the next row will be a wrong-side row.

To pick up a given number of stitches along an edge, fold it in half, mark the halfway point, then fold each half and mark the quarters. Divide the number of stitches by four, and pick up this number of stitches evenly from each marked quarter.
