Although there's one basic method of casting off, there are simple variations that can be useful. Chain cast-off is the easiest and most used. The decrease cast-off is less well known, but gives a very smooth finish. Casting off with a crochet hook makes it easy to cope with slippery yarns or tight stitches.
It can be more difficult to detect a dropped stitch when using fluffy wools like mohair.
