Roman Stripe

Here is a charming lacy pattern that is very easy to work. The fabric is reversible, of course, since there are 7 rows (an odd number). But it can be given a right and a wrong side by omitting Row 7 and doing the pattern with only 6 rows.

This pattern makes very lovely scarves, shawls, stoles, baby blankets (summer weight), light throws for sofas and chairs, etc. A few repeats of the 7 pattern rows will form a very pleasing border for skirts, sleeves, or lacy blouses.

Even number of sts.

Row 1—Kl, * yo, kl; rep from * across to last st, end kl. Row 2—Kl, purl across to last st, end kl. Row 3—Kl, * k2 tog; rep from * across to last st, end kl. Rows 4 and 5—Kl, * yo, k2 tog; rep from * across to last st, end kl. Rows 6 and 7 — Knit.
