Productivity (P) is expressed in pattern rows per minute. In warp knitting this is the same as courses, but in weft knitting a pattern row may be composed of more than one course (feed).

In warp knitting, P = R x e, where R is the number of camshaft revolutions per minute and E is the machine efficiency.

In weft knitting, P = F x R or T x (e/c), where F is the number of active yarn feeds, R or T the number of machine revolutions or cam-carriage traverses per minute, and C the number of courses or colours which comprise one pattern row.
