(See also Cut and sew, page 125) Used in circular knitting to prepare the work for vertical slits, especially open ones. Invaluable for working jacquard and whenever seeing right side of work all the time is an advantage; make a bridge for each opening (such as a jacket front, armhole, sleeve top, neckline). Fig 11:
a Cast on a few sts (8 to 14 depending on yarn) at start of slit, to form bridge base. Use one of the end of rows methods, b K the bridge sts for length of slit. If working with two colours, k1 in each colour.
c At top of slit, bind off bridge, d To finish, work one or two rows of close stitching at either side of centre line. Cut through centre and stitch back - consider binding for neatness.
