Heel flap: K20, si rem sts from needle 1 onto needle 2, turn—33 sts on needle 2. Row 1: (WS) SI 1, pi9, kl (seam st), p20, si rem sis from needle 3 onto needle 2, turn—41 heel sts on one needle. Redistribute rem 39 sis on 2 needles to be worked later for instep. Work 41 heel sts back and forth in rows as foil: Row 2: (RS) Si 1, kl9, pi, k20. Row 3: (WS) SI 1, pl9, kl, p20. Rep Rows 2 and 3 until a total of 30 heel rows have been worked, ending with Row 3; 15 chain sts (slipped selvedge sis) along each edge of heel flap.

Turn heel: Work short rows as foil: Row 1: (RS) K22, si 1, kl, psso, kl, turn. Row 2: (WS) SI 1, p4, p2tog, pi, turn. Row 3: Si 1, knit lo 1 st before gap made on previous row, si 1, kl, psso, kl, turn. Row 4: SI 1, purl to 1 st before gap made on previous row, p2tog, pi, turn. Rep Rows 3 and 4 until all sts have been worked—23 heel sts rem. Gussets: Rejoin for working in the rnd as foil:
