Rnd 1: On needle 1, kl, si 1, kl, psso, knit to end; on needle 2, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, kl; on needle 3, kl, si 1, kl, psso, knit to last 3 sts, l<2tog, kl—4 sis deed. Rnd 2: Knit.
Change to CC and rep Rnds 1 and 2—58 sts rem. Rep Rnds 1 and 2, alternating 2 rnds each of MC and CC, 5 more times, ending with a CC stripe—38 sts rem; 10 sts on needle 1, 9 sts on needle 2, 19 sts on needle 3. Cui MC, and rep Rnds 1 and 2 with CC 4 more times—22 sts rem; 6 sts on needle 1, 5 sts on needle 2, 11 sts on needle 3. The original pattern says "arrange the remaining sts on one needle and cast off, sewing the cast off sts together to close the hole." 1 recommend placing the sts on needles 1 and 2 onto the same needle so that there are 11 sts each on 2 needles. Cut yarn, leaving a 12" (30.5-cm) tail. Thread tail on a tapestry needle, and use the Kitchener st (Glossary, page 117) to graft sts tog. Weave in loose ends. Block on sock blockers or under a damp towel.
