Crochet Chain

Crochet chains work well as hat ties, sewn on as outlines for decorative motifs, or as cords from which to hang pompoms.

1 Make a slipknot, leaving a 6-inch tail, and slip it onto a crochet hook.

2 Wrap the working yarn around the hook from back to front (creating a yarn over loop) so that the hook catches the yarn.

3 Holding the working yarn in your left hand and the hook in your right pull the yarn over loop on the hook from back to front through the slipknot.

You have made 1 loop in a chain.

4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the chain is the desired length. Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail, and pull it snugly through the last loop to finish the chain.
