Top of Hand

Before beginning the ring finger, you must put all the remaining hand stitches back onto the needles and work for about Vi inch to account for the crook between the ring finger and the middle finger being higher than the crook between the pinky and the ring finger.

1 Put first set of sts held on loose yarn back onto a dpn. Put second set of sts held on loose yarn onto second dpn.

2 Rejoin working yarn and pick up and knit—from base of pinky at CO sts—the number of sts indicated for your size and gauge in the second column of Table 11. This is the new end of rnd.

3 You should have on the needles the number of sts indicated for your size and gauge in the third column of Table 11. Divide these sts as evenly as possible over 3 dpns, maintaining beg of rnd after picked-up sts.

4 Rejoin rnd and work the number of rnds indicated for your size and gauge in the fourth column of Table 11.

2 place onto a 2nd dpn the number of sts from the end of rnd (this includes the picked-up sts at base of pinky) indicated for your size and gauge in the third column of Table 12.

3 Put rem sts indicated in fourth column of Table 12 onto a holder or strand of loose yarn.

4 Going back to the sts on the needles, with working yarn still attached, k across the number of sts from the beg of rnd indicated in the second column of Table 12.

5 Use simple cast-on (page 244) to CO the number of sts indicated for your size and gauge in the fifth column of Table 12. This covers the gap between the palm and the back of the hand.

6 You should have on the needles for the ring finger the number of sts indicated for your size and gauge in the sixth column of Table 12. Join these sts into a rnd after the CO sts, then k to end of sts from the third column of Table 12. Pm for beg/end of rnd here. Divide sts as evenly as possible over 3 dpns.

7 Knit until the finger measures approx 1 7>-13/4 (13/4-2'/4, 2-27-, 214-3, 272-3) inches from beg.

Note: If you have an odd number of sts, work as specified to last 3 sts, k3tog.

9 Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pull through rem sts and secure.
